Healthy nutrition can help in reducing the risk of falling sick or preventing us from deadly diseases. It is said that our body requires major seven types of nutrients. All kind of nutrients like water and fiber does not provide energy but are still considered essential. Nutrients are categorized into two major types – macronutrients and micronutrients.

Macronutrients

As the word depicts the meaning, macronutrients are required on a large scale when compared to micronutrients. They are known to provide energy, and hence it is essential to be taken in a diet.

Carbohydrates

The primary source of energy is provided by carbohydrates, and hence it is taken on a large scale. Underground vegetables like potato, tapioca, and bread have high carbohydrate which in turn provides energy for our body to perform daily work. Carbohydrates produce the energy required for performing daily work like walking, jogging, sitting or movement of body parts.

Proteins

The best source of proteins is available in pulses, meat, seafood, and eggs. The amino acids available in the sources help in growth, development of body and body tissues repair and maintenance. Proteins help in improving the immune system of the human body, bone and muscle structure and repair tissues if damaged. The more protein is consumed, is better for the body.

Fats

Fats cannot be avoided in our diet and is essential to be consumed in small quantities daily for a healthy lifestyle. Sources of fats like oils, red meat help in absorption of Vitamins which are in turn essential for our body’s proper functioning. Fats help in structuring of cells and prevent damage of membranes.

Micronutrients

Micronutrients are to be consumed on a small scale when compared to macro and does not provide energy. They are required in small quantities in a diet for a balanced healthy life.

Vitamins

Without vitamins, it is highly impossible for our body to synthesise. Hence it is recommended to take sources of vitamins mainly fruits, vegetables daily in our diet. Even supplementary tablet provides the source of vitamins. However, it is advised to take in a natural way. Intake of vitamins helps in the formation of bones, improve immunity and cure skin and eye ailments.

Minerals

Minerals taken in small quantities help in maintaining cardiovascular health and maintain the skeleton structure. The need for iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese, calcium, sodium, potassium is mandatory for the proper functioning of our body parts. For example, iodine is required in our body for the proper functioning of thyroid glands. The source of iodine in our daily food cycle is salt which is high in iodine content.

Water

The most mandatory element required to maintain body temperature and help in the proper functioning of kidneys is water. All the humans recommend consumption of water and a minimum of 3 litres of water should be consumed daily for a healthy life.
